Disasters of modern society

This on-going series is based on interactions or conversations I have had with people. These people range from complete strangers to the closest person I know and everything in between. The interactions are generally about their fears, anxieties or about specific events in their life that cause them thought. Some people tell their story with humour, some people tell it in sadness some have a very deadpan delivery; it really varies. Certain stories are truly horrific and the the stuff of nightmares, others relate more to frustration,

misunderstanding or just the general feeling of being lost, either mentally or physically.

As people tell me their story it lets me form a very vivid world in my mind that in some way represents what they are talking about or feeling. Each world is different, each world has its own distortions, subtleties and influences. The paintings are just projections of these worlds; they are works on paper- old anatomy etchings- to represent our inherent fragility. The skeletons represent people at their most basic. No matter our direction or trajectory we are all skin and bones; we are all human.

I realise amongst this small number I may not have painted one of your stories or one that you can relate to, but eventually when I have hundreds or thousands hopefully it will be there.
